Immunopharmacology (7.5 ECTS)
Thursday 20 March 2014
As a part of the master Pharmaceutical Sciences, most of the other students were studying to become a pharmacist.
Don’t expect too much from the immunology in this course: it’s fairly basic compared to the background provided by the I & I master. This made the presentation component (a debate in which your group is pro or against an immunological hypothesis) fairly easy. Other ‘deliverables’ were a home-made reader (find an article that is linked to each lecture and give a short explanation of the link) and a report of the practical component.
The practical component was the interesting bit of the course: a demonstration of airway function in mice and an hypersensitivity model that involved an ear-swelling assay and IL-6 measurements of the mice’s spleen and ears.
All in all, it was a pretty easy course (especially because it’s 7.5 ECTS, a course load mostly captured in the duration of the course, not the amount of work required) with an interesting practical experiment that is a good way to introduce the type of animal experiments that may be involved with your future research (if you continue in that direction).
