Determine signaling modules that distinguish auto inflammation from autoimmunity

Project
Determine signaling modules that distinguish auto inflammation from autoimmunity

A considerable number of human diseases exhibit both auto inflammatory and autoimmune features (for example rheumatoid arthritis). In collaborative projects between the Radstake and Boes labs at the UMCU, we aim to clarify signaling routes that contribute to auto inflammatory features (which tend to be more innate immune signaling dominated) from autoimmunity (which incorporate adaptive immune pathways) (van Kempen T et al., Nature Rev. Rheumatology 2015). By elucidation of such pathways we aim to ultimately be able to predict disease courses, and thereby find pivotal targets for intervention where possible.
