Levels of T and B cell subpopulations together with immunoglobulin and specific antibody concentrations are less affected by reduced intensity chemotherapy which is reflected in a major reduction in infectious morbidity. However, the beneficial effect of treatment reduction on specific antibody levels seems, although significant, only marginal. The same applies to the long term recovery of the immune system.
