Summary
This thesis consists of three parts, which combined provide information on how to improve clinical as well as patient-reported outcomes of cSLE patients.

In part I, we discuss the long term outcomes of adult patients who were diagnosed with childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE). Not only do we cover clinical outcomes such as disease activity or damage, but health-related quality of life, education and work participation of these patients are also addressed.

In part II, evidence-based guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of cSLE, lupus nephritis in cSLE patients as well as childhood-onset antiphospholipid syndrome, a condition which can coincide with cSLE are given.

In part III, the benefits of several vaccines are discussed as a very practical way to improve morbidity and mortality in cSLE and other paediatric rheumatic diseases.
